Temporary

Today, sadly but understandably, my operation was postponed due to the Covid-19/Coronavirus outbreak. It will be rearranged but for much later in the year. Another negative of this is that it now confines me to at least three weeks without seeing anyone I know, as under the rules of the Government lockdown I am unable to see Victoria, or travel into St Andrews to see my friends. All of this is though very much understandable, and as we love each other we will still be there for each other once this is all over, and are keeping in touch via the telephone. I am also keeping in touch with my family via phone and Facebook messenger.

Today has been another stark day for the UK regarding Covid-19/Coronavirus.  A further 87 people have died and there are now a minimum of 8,077 confirmed positive cases of the disease. This means 5% of those with the illness have died, 10% of those tested have contracted the disease and this could potentially lead to some 8million cases and 400,000 deaths in the worst case scenario.

The UK is now 7th on the worldwide list of countries with deaths due to the Covid-19/Coronavirus outbreak. Scotland has now sadly seen 16 people die and 584 have tested positive. There are some 25 cases in Fife.

These are deeply worrying times for every single one of us, for a variety of reasons including health, social and financial.

Today, the first day of the lockdown I have had a productive day.

I launched a new series of photographs from inside my flat in Cupar, shining a light on the outside world through my windows. LOCKDOWN will be a collection of photographs taken daily and posted on the Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts for Matt Hooper Photography.

I went for a walk along the River Eden and managed to capture an image of two residents doing their allowed daily exercise and a bird sat on a rock in the river, the weather today was glorious and there were a few people out walking their dogs and getting fresh Fife air.

I have also decided to begin work on the annual edition of This is St Andrews, with an aim to publish in a few weeks, providing light relief and a distraction for people during this extremely testing time.

Our situation is temporary and for the time being we all have to find ways to fill our time, keep healthy and remain sane. Only time will tell if these measures work and if they will need to be extended past 13 April.
